Partner Perspective

Global Research Foundation Fundraising

Doustan-med
Local Houston philanthropists Michael and Joy Doustan, in conjunction with Houston artist LeeAnne Domangue, recently hosted a fundraising event at their home benefiting CLL Global Research Foundation. LeeAnne created 14 original pieces of art for the event. In addition to direct donations made by many guests, fifty percent of the proceeds from the sale of each piece of art was donated to CLL Global.
Attendees of the event included friends and family of Michael and Joy, MD Anderson Leukemia faculty and fellows, CLL Global board members, and of course our very own Dr. Michael Keating. Donations from the event are still being tallied but to date over $5000 has been raised for the foundation.

CLL Global is pleased to partner with our supporters through multiple mechanisms to increase awareness of the disease, raise funds to support cutting edge research and patient education events, and to bring together our incredible community of CLL survivors, family members, and caregivers. Please join me in thanking the Doustans and LeeAnne for their hard work and commitment to supporting CLL Global Research Foundation.

Skate for a Cure

skate-for-the-cure
A group of girls from the Panthers Figure Skating Club in Coral Springs, Florida are using their athletic talent to raise CLL awareness and funds for CLL research by hosting Skate for a Cure events. One of the girls, Deanna Velez, is the daughter of a CLL patient. All of the girls and their coach, Martine de la Torre, are committed to utilizing their talents to benefit the quest of CLL Global to find a cure.

The Skate for a Cure events are held at the Saveology Iceplex in Coral Springs. Half of the admission fees from each event are designated for CLL Global. The girls organize three events per year, and the first event was held on November 12, 2011. The Panthers girls have already benefited CLL Global, and their ongoing support will continue to help accelerate CLL research.

Rock Around the Cure

Rock-Around-the-Cure
On Saturday, February 4th, 2012 the Rock Around the Cure event was held to raise money for CLL Global. The Twin Creeks Country Club near Austin, Texas, transformed into a 1950’s malt shoppe complete with burgers, shakes, the jitterbug and bingo. This fun evening was organized by the family and close friends of Arnie Jellison, a CLL patient. His family and friends wanted to do something to celebrate Arnie and support his battle.

Will Newman, Believe Again

will-newman
When he was 11 years old, Will Newman accompanied his father to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas where his dad was being treated for chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). During his visit, Will learned that there were doctors and researchers around the world working tirelessly to find a cure for CLL. He wanted to help and did so with his musical talents.

Will and his dad wrote a holiday song titled “Believe Again” and recorded it along with some other holiday favorites. The product of their hard work is an album also titled Believe Again which is sold online through Will’s website (www.willnewmanmusic.com). Will’s parents donated the costs of the production, manufacturing and promotion of the album. They wanted to ensure that all of the money from the sales of the “Believe Again” project could be donated to CLL Global to help bring a miracle to the Newman Family and all families impacted by CLL.

Rene Uzé, Baton Rouge Salon Owner Supports CLL Global

Rene-Uze-check-presentation
René Uzé owned a successful high-end salon in New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005. Literally everything he had worked for was lost. As he was putting his life back together, he was diagnosed with CLL. With fearlessness and ambition, René has defied his cancer and his doctor’s expectations. He now owns two successful salons in the Baton Rouge, LA area where he relocated after Hurricane Katrina.

René’s story was a perfect fit for Rick Domeier and Max Davis’ book, “Can I Get a Do Over?,” which is a compilation of “unforgettable stories of second chances and life makeovers”. The two authors joined René for a book signing and reception at Forum, a Rene’ Uze’ Salon, in Baton Rouge in June 2011. Book sales from the reception were contributed in part to CLL Global.
